In the Treaty on European Union (Maastricht Treaty), which became effective in November 1993, the Committee of the Regions (COR) was established as a political committee of representatives of local and regional bodies of the European Union.
Austria's accession to the European Union (EU) not only had an effect on national legislation and its implementation by the government. EU law also means changes for state legislation (State Parliament) as the EU laws also intervene in competences which the Austrian constitution has assigned to the federal states.
