Since 1949 the State anthem of Vorarlberg has been "‘s Ländle, meine Heimat", words and music by Anton Schmutzer (1864 to 1936). It is a song of praise to Vorarlberg, the "dear homeland" with its beautiful mountains, flowery meadows and scent of pine. The chorus goes: "O Vorarlberg, I'll be true to you, until the Lord calls me."

History
The original version of today's State anthem dates back to 1905 when the Feldkirch music teacher and choir conductor Anton Schmutzer (1864 to 1936) put music to the poem "Vorarlbergers Heimweh“ ("Homesick for Vorarlberg"). In 1907 he changed the melody slightly and added a new text which he had composed himself: "Du Ländle, meine teure Heimat ("Little Country, My Dear Homeland").
In 1937 the State Government made the folk song the official "State anthem". In the following years of war and the Hitler dictatorship, when Vorarlberg was again temporarily governed by Innsbruck, it gained special significance.
In 1949 the State Parliament passed a law to make "‘s Ländle, meine Heimat“ the State anthem.
Anton Schmutzer's nephew, Josef Pezzei, and his great grand-nephew, Manfred Getzner B.Sc. eng. entrusted the estate of the Schmutzer musician family to the municipal authorities of Feldkirch. The "Schmutzer archive" is now part of the extensive music collection of the Municipal Library of Feldkirch.
