It is impossible to look to the future without addressing questions and seeking answers. The future does not just happen – it can be shaped. The Office for Future-Related Issues sees its role as a motivating force for sustainable development: our function is to promote innovative approaches to forward-looking development. We bring people and issues together for a sustainable development. We promote innovative and accepted answers for the challenges of our time.

Civic involvement, such as voluntary work, honorary officers, self-help or neighbourhood help, offers an important contribution within society. Committed people are at the centre of our activities. We encourage people to take responsibility for themselves and to become active. Engaged people are the foundation of a functioning society (Subsidiarity).

"Social capital" can be defined as the social cohesion within a community. Friendship, recognition, appreciation and the feeling of security – all of these are capital, which are more valuable than money and certainly can not be bought with money alone. We promote social solidarity in order to improve quality of life in our community.

"Sustainable development is a development which satisfies the requirements of the present, without taking the risk that future generations cannot satisfy their own needs." (Brundtland Report, 1987). One the one hand we coordinate and on the other hand we initiate campaigns and pilot projects for the communication and public promotion of key issues for the future.
