This slogan is used as a call to nature-lovers to respect the habitats of plants and animals, and to ensure the preservation of protected areas and areas of natural beauty.
Since the autumn of 2005, Vorarlberg has had three areas of gastronomic distinction, characterized by their leading products: the alpine and mountain cheeses of the Bregenzerwald, Großwalsertal mountain cheese and the “Montafoner Surer Kees”.
Animal husbandry is almost the only means available for the exploitation of grasslands and alpine pastures for food production. 32 of Austria’s 99 creameries and alpine dairy farms are located in Vorarlberg.
Vorarlberg has some 400 biofarms, organized in the form of individual bio-cooperatives. Furthermore, the sowing of genetically-modified seed is prohibited in Vorarlberg.
